Heritage Day 2018

Celebrating Women in the 20th Century

Chairman’s Report

We held our annual Heritage Day on Saturday, October 20th at Ty Ebbw Fach in Six Bells. We listened to four talks, all concerning the achievements of women during the last 100 years.

Our talks were as follows:

  • Alun Burge talking about ‘Minnie Pallister’

  • Dr Elin Jones talking about ‘Winning the Vote for Women’

  • David Llewellyn talking about ‘Marie Stopes’

  • Peter Strong talking about ‘Gwent Women in World War 2’

All of the talks were illuminating, thought provoking and, above all, entertaining. It was a very successful day.

The venue (as all agreed) was excellent and the buffet lunch exceptional. Our thanks to Christine who organised the feast and the directors of Ty Ebbw Fach for allowing us to use their meeting rooms.

After the break there was a guided tour to Guardian and all who attended the day took advantage of the chance to see the memorial, a first for many of the visitors. Our thanks to Lucy who took charge of the guiding.

The day was supported by  Tredegar Town Council; Tredegar History and Archive Society/Tredegar Museum and Abertillery and Llanhilleth Community Council.
