Women’s History Month – Stories from the women of Usk gaol

Gwent Archives

Time; I:00pm – 2:00pm.

Women’s stories are often forgotten in histories and when women are present in archives it is often only the women of the upper classes and elites that get told. In this brief lunchtime talk we will explore the stories of women, forgotten, from the Usk Gaol books. Exploring these women’s lives not only unearths forgotten stories of women from Gwent, it touches on important themes such as immigration, female servants, the occupations held by women in the 1800’s, young girls convicted of crimes and sent to reform schools in England, and much more.
