‘What’s On’ in Blaenau Gwent?
This is the place to find out all you need to know about ‘What’s On’ , heritage-wise. This includes our free monthly talks, our spring and autumn trips and our annual Heritage Day. We also advertise upcoming events relating to the rich heritage of this area organised by others.
We have Becky from ‘Beckoned Marketing and Events’ joining us for the day. She is going to take some general photos and videos of the event and venue to put into a short reel to share with others.

Bedwellty House is named after the parish in which it stands. It is a rare early 19th Century ironmaster’s residence, full of historic significance and charm, which has become an iconic centrepiece for the town of Tredegar.
Blaenavon Industrial Landscape was designated as a World Heritage Site by UNESCO in 2000. The heritage site contains not only Blaenavon Ironworks and Big Pit, but includes the wider landscape with its relics of mineral exploitation, manufacturing, transport and settlements. Everything together tells the story of the iron and coal industry that was pre-eminent in south Wales in the 19th century.
Llanhilleth Miners Institute was opened in 1906 to provide a range of social sporting and educational facilities for the workers of Llanhilleth Colliery. It is celebrating its 120th year of being at the heart of its local community this year.
Castell Taliorum is an unusual medieval masonry castle ruin located on the hills behind St Illtyd’s Church.
St. Illtyd’s Church is built of local stone and is the oldest standing building within the county borough of Blaenau Gwent.
Copperopolis was the name given to Swansea in the 18th and 19th centuries because it was the global capital of the world’s copper smelting industry.

Ruperra Castle was built by Sir Thomas Morgan of Machen and completed in 1626 – 400 years ago! Everyone is invited to join in the celebrations of this wonderful scheduled monument. It is the only pageant castle in Wales (built for show not defence) but is sadly at risk of collapse.
‘Ruperra Castle Preservation Trust’ is campaigning to save this lovely castle and its surrounding buildings and gardens so that they can be preserved and used for the benefit of the community and generations to come.
