Last month we were closed for a week in order to work on our collections. We posted daily progress on social media but after a couple of weeks reviewing our overall progress, we wanted to let you know what the team were able to achieve that week.

The team worked on the Newport Rugby and Athletic Club Collection and throughout the week were relabelling, weighing and moving items to their permanent location. In total the team relabelled, weighed and moved 139 boxes to their permanent location. This means almost 75% of the collection are now in their permanent locations!

Our conservation team also worked hard on the collection throughout the week repackaging, labelling and shelving specialist items. Over the week, 26 bindings and 18 bundles of photographs were labelled, packaged and shelved.

Overall, it was an incredibly successful week and we’re already planning for our next collections week in September.

Friends of the Museum Scheme:

Those people, who joined or rejoined the scheme last year, after the post Covid relaunch, should now have received their first Newsletter of the new year - No.21.
If anyone was expecting a Newsletter and has not received it, please let us know.
Also, if anybody would like to join the scheme, also please let us know and we will get a Newsletter out to you as soon as possible.
The fee is £10 a year and for that you receive two Newsletters a year, they include a number of interesting articles and scans of photos and documents from our huge archive and news updates to help members keep in touch with any changes to the museum.
The money raised is used to help cover our operating costs to try to ensure that the museum remains open to welcome visitors.
Our contact details for anyone wishing to join or for existing members, who have not received a Newsletter are given below.
Contact details:
1. Facebook Messenger (Ebbw Vale Works Museum)
2. Telephone: 01495 350941
3. E mail: [email protected]
4. “Contact Us” page on our website: evwat.co.uk

Visitors to the museum are always welcome.
Opening times are on this site and please note we are open tomorrow ( Saturday 14th February) as part of a new initiative, where Gwent Archives and the Museum are open, one Saturday a month.
