It was a pleasure for Lyn Maloney to present Christine Bailey with a copy of Blaenau Gwent Heritage Forum’s recently published Spring Journal, on behalf of Llanhilleth Heritage Society. This journal contains a rediscovered document, 'The History of the Parish of Llanhilleth' written in 1947 by W. H. Bailey (Bill), Christine’s uncle. Christine received the journal on behalf of his family.
A poor and very dilapidated copy of Mr. Bailey’s original, detailed history had been sat on top of our editor, Rodger Burchell's bookcase for many years. It has now been painstakingly transcribed, the faded original drawings redrawn and diagrams/maps and clearer photographs, contributed by members of Llanhilleth Heritage Society. The history has been reproduced in the journal and covers 53 pages.
The journal is packed full with other interesting articles relating to the area, too and is a very interesting and varied read. If you would like to buy a copy, it costs £7.50 and can be bought through our webite blaenau-gwent-heritage-forum.co.uk/online-shop/ or in Llanhilleth Miners' Institute, Heritage Centre on Tuesdays 2pm - 4pm.

This fabulous mural of Sir David Brunt, who was raised in Llanhilleth, was recently painted by Andy O'Rourke. The finished result is incredible and the residents of Llanhilleth are delighted with it.
David Brunt was known as the 'Father of Meteorology.' His work was hugely important during WW2 and is still used by meteorologists today.
Members of the Heritage Centre, Llanhilleth are trying to trace relatives of David's, so if you have a connection, or know someone who does, please get in touch using the email address below. They would love to hear from you.
