Blaenau Gwent covers the Ebbw Fach, Ebbw Fawr and Sirhowy valleys. The rollercoaster landscape is great to explore on foot and offers amazing views. This area has a long and proud history with each town and village having many stories to tell. These trails give glimpses into the past and reveal the area’s heritage through fact, legends, folklore and local history.

Beaufort
Beaufort Hill Ponds and Woodlands
This isn’t a trail as such, but a beautiful woodland nature reserve comprising a mix of broadleaf trees and ponds. There is good access from the parking areas and the path network includes an ‘all ability’ circular trail at Upper Boat Pond. The ponds are reservoirs originally built to supply water to local industries.
Tredegar
Parc Bryn Bach
Parc Bryn Bach was once part of an extensive network of coal mines and colliery works, but the land has been reclaimed, and transformed into a 340 acre grass and woodland public park which includes a wonderful 36-acre lake. It has a richly diverse eco-system with numerous habitats that have become a haven for all sorts of wildlife. The Green Flag award winning natural landscape is one of ten officially designated Local Nature Reserves (LNR) in Blaenau Gwent.
Ebbw Fach Trail
The Ebbw Fach Valley was an important industrial centre for the iron and coal industry. This trail links together 14 community green spaces that offer a variety of amenities – a total of 16km.
Clydach Gorge
This beautiful gorge includes a steep-sided valley down which the River Clydach flows to the river Usk. There are wonderful far-reaching views, peaceful woodland trails and a series of beautiful waterfalls to enjoy.

Joseph Bailey Trail
Newport Film School Project
A few years ago Eifion was involved in presenting a lovely, short film about the Joseph Bailey Trail. It was a Newport Film School project with Peter Watkins-Hughes and his students. It is around 5 mins in length and a nice way to remember Eifion as he tells us about the history of the area accompanied by his dog.
